The normal household outlet allows you to charge your Tesla at 5 miles/hour rate. To get a higher charging speed, you will need to install a new 50 AMP circuit breaker in your main house electric panel. Then run a 240v wire to your garage with a wall outlet near your Tesla parking space. You will also need an adapter called Gen 2 NEMA Adapter. You can get the adapter from Tesla for $45. With that, you are all set to charge your Tesla at 30 miles/hour at home. It cost me $650 to have the 50 amp breaker, wiring, and outlet installed. But the cost can vary at different locations.

For our occasional distant driving need, 30 miles/hour is way more than enough. We have had our Tesla for a few weeks now, we found we only needed to charge it once every 5 to 6 days.
Gen 2 wall connector max continue charge current 80A (100A breaker) Gen 3 wall connector max continue charge current 48A (60A breaker) Gen 2 corded mobile connector max continue charge current 40A (NEMA 14-50 outlet) Gen 2 mobile connector max continue charge current 32A NEMA 14-50 receptacle max continue currently 50A (60A breaker) Model 3 standard range/plus, max AC charge current 32A Model 3(excluds standard range/plus), Y, S, X max AC charge current 48A Some older Model S, X max AC charge current 70A (Gen 2 wall connector 100A breaker) Continue charge current = circuit max current * 80%
google 240v outlet
50 amp breaker costs about $12 and $10 for the NEMA 14-50 outlet. $16/foot for the wiring.

Good for you! Unfortunately, I am not as handy as you.
