This is probably ringworm, a kind of fungi infection. The fungi is very similar to the one causing athlete's foot in humans. It is highly contagious. If there is only one small spot and your cat is young and healthy with good immune system, he or she can probably recover from it with a little topical cream -Lotrimin (can be found over the counter in any drug store). But if it is getting bigger or showing up in other locations, you will have to take the cat to Vet to get the oral medication. This fungi can also infect human and is very hard to clear. You need to be persistent. Good luck!
