Great question! I should have being taught since young as following: IMHO: 1. Water flushing your mouth and teeth(at least after each meal); Hereby the water prik/Oral irrigator is just a joke. 2. Use dental floss after that Interdental brush and switch, esp. if you ate meat/beef; (dental floss is to my opinion the most effective and cost-efficient), Interdental brush is important if you have holes in your teeth. This step I would call it in-depth cleaning; 3. Tooth brush W. A LOT OF toothpaste！cover complete toothbrush, and sometime even the 2nd round. First cover the paste at best all teeth, then begin to brush, no water. PS: this step is just for the surface of the teeth, I would call it superficial step, esp. if people omit the 2. step; 4. FYI. I have a ultrasonic cleaning device myself to get rid of teeth stone/calculus myself. esp. for the easily accessible frontal teeth the backside, but only if you are a very careful people; 5. At the end, visiting dentist regularly should not be omitted at least quarterly, even just for cleaning the teeth stone for inaccessible areas, and also at certain life time for teeth development/ageing; There maybe more concerns, but here just my 5 cents to share with you, hope to be helpful.
