Yes。 But I would wait until end of Jan (towards the last business day) to buy your 10K 2022 i-bond because interest is retroactive to Jan 1st. Your 10K cash can earn a couple of cents sitting in your saving account for an extra 30 days.

no credit risk no market risk. min holding 12 months (after forfeiting last 3 month interest if redeemed before 5 years). So the worst you get about 3.x% for 12 months (first 6 month roughly @ 7.12% annual rate/yield). yes you can get 10K per calendar year from treasury direct. Another 5K as paper bond can also be obtained through tax refund (5K per tax filing).

To buy an electronic savings bond as a gift: You must have a TreasuryDirect account The recipient must have a TreasuryDirect account You must know the recipient’s: Full name Social Security Number or Taxpayer Identification Number TreasuryDirect account number You can give gift bonds to adults or children. A child under 18 can have a TreasuryDirect account only if a parent or other adult custodian creates a minor linked account.

two different events. 第一,Issue date of I-bond is always MM-YYYY so there is no difference between buying on first day of month vs last day of the month. They are identical. So if you bought last day of Dec, 2016 you can redeem on first day of Dec 2021 without penalty. (so technically you are holding 4 years + ~11 months, I think?) 第二,there is no dispute on the last 3 month interests. you redeem on any day in Jan (before 5 year), you lose Nov, Dec,Jan interests. Feel free to use the i-bond calculater to confirm: https://treasurydirect.gov/BC/SBCPrice

yeah that's about right. the calculator from treasurydirect only support paper ibonds but I would think electronic bonds are handled similiarly. yolandos 发表于 2021-12-29 15:43

yeah that's about right. the calculator from treasurydirect only support paper ibonds but I would think electronic bonds are handled similiarly.
