Keanu Reeves has revealed why he rejected the chance to star in Speed 2 with Sandra Bullock. The actor starred as LA cop Jack Tavern in the 90s blockbuster about a bus that has a bomb strapped to it and can''t slow down otherwise it will blow up. However, while his co-star went onto reprise her role in the film''s sequel, which centred on a cruise ship, Reeves declined. And speaking on the Graham Norton Show this week, the 57-year-old explained why. He told the host: "At the time I didn’t respond to the script. "I really wanted to work with Sandra Bullock. I loved playing Jack Tavern and I loved Speed – but an ocean liner? "I had nothing against the artists involved, but at that time I had the feeling it just wasn’t right." But while the pair didn''t star in the sequel together, the bond that Reeves and Bullock had formed while filming the 1994 movie has lasted the test of time. Speaking to Esquire recently, Bullock revealed that The Matrix star once sent her a special gift. She explained that on one occasion, about a year after shooting Speed, she and Reeves got on to the subject of champagne and truffles and how she''d never had them. Bullock thought it was a throwaway comment, nothing more, but then a few days later Reeves turned up on his motorbike with flowers, champagne and truffles and said: "I just thought you might want to try champagne and truffles, to see what it''s like." Bullock was painting her nails with a friend at the time, but she invited him in, they drank the champagne and she painted his nails too. He didn''t stay for long though, as he had a date to get to. Bullock said: "When I first met him, I would spend as much time as I could filling a silence, just to feel comfortable. "And the more I jibber-jabbered on, the quieter he would get. And I thought, ''I don''t understand what''s happening! He''s looking at me with eyes of confusion. He''s quiet. Did I say something to offend him?'' "And then a day or two later, he would arrive with a note or a little package, saying, ''I thought about what you said'', and he would have his response. "How many people do you know like that?" But while rumours did the rounds at the time that she and Reeves had a romantic relationship, Bullock has confirmed that wasn''t the case. Bullock and Reeves became close on the set of Speed. I don''t think there''s anyone who has something horrible to say about him. "So maybe we could have survived. I don''t know. But we didn''t have to survive anything. We just get to grow up together on parallel roads and tip our hats and meet for a dinner and try to work together. "And the longer time goes on, the more in awe I am of the human being. Would I have been able to say that if he had dumped me and made me angry? Probably not."
