Cozido das Furnas Cozido das Furnas is possibly Portugal's most unique dish. It can only be found in Furnas on São Miguel of the Azores islands. This special hearty stew is slow-cooked underground by volcanic heat.
In the Furnas Valley, close to a beautiful lake on the Azorean island of Sao Miguel, this dish is cooked by placing the pot in the ground which is heated by volcanic steam. The food cooks very slowly – for about 6 hours – and the only liquid used are the juices produced by all the ingredients. This is a typical Portuguese dish that one can boil at home in a regular pot with a cup of water home.
Beef and pork, baked or fried, have a strong, savory presence in the local cuisine. They are usually served with bread made from either cornmeal or wheat flour, often complemented by popular types of sausage, such as blood puddings and Linguiça - a smoke cured pork sausage with recipes that differ from one island to another.

蓬塔德尔加达 城西，10月5日广场北侧，有一座被称为圣布莱斯堡垒的要塞。当时为了抵御海盗的侵犯，蓬塔德尔加达于公元1552年修建了这一坚固的要塞工程。整个要塞呈四角形，面对清澈蔚蓝的大海，高高的围墙和角楼斑驳沧桑，气势威严壮观。如今，要塞内一部分堡垒已改建成军事博物馆，虽然仍有驻军，但允许游客进入参观。
