The area of Kauai visited by Stephen and Jenny is known to be rather dangerous. Marijuana plantations exist around the region and two hikers were killed by growers in 1990, the same year the couple disappeared. Investigators do not know if Stephen and Jenny met with foul play or if they were involved in an accident. Authorities believe it is unlikely, but not impossible, that two people traveling together in the area had fatal accidents.

她和男友去夏威夷自驾游，然后就再也没回来。两周过去没消息，教授以为还要休假，就没管，然后父母来找了，说发短信也不回，问是不是回学校了。教授不知。后来就报警了。
然后警方找到了他们的敞篷车，在某山区，车子完好，貌似是停车背包去hike。附近地毯式搜索，没有找到。
后来就一直没有找到。
教授说：是不是他们（俩博士）科研压力太大了，一起逃避生活，隐姓埋名换个life了？
就是什么都没找到。尸体，遗物，什么都没有。就是一辆车在那放着。
肯定是遇难了。。。没有摄像头 ，地广人稀，遗体也会快速腐烂，或者遇害被人处理掉。 除非警方运气特别好或者死人通灵， 不然就永远是无头案。
