It is OK. It is mostly for USO/USL type of ETF. If you sold the ETF before 2020/12/31, it doesn''t not affect your final tax amount in anyway. Just different accounting -- more forms & more numbers. If you still hold the ETF, tax will be slightly different, but again, it is not Huge trouble. Tax will breakeven when you sell the ETF. Mostly likely IRS will not make a big fuss of it. Again, I am saying the correct way is to amend. But, it is not a huge problem in terms of numbers, and if some people forget to file ETF K-1.
