The New York City listing, located at 9 East 71st Street, is a stunning property if you consider its merits on the house alone. Built in 1930 and designed by Horace Trumbauer, who is also responsible for the Elms in Newport, the mansion is 50 feet wide (a rarity in this city), seven stories tall, and has 40 rooms, making it one of Manhattan''s largest private homes. The Frick Collection is across the street and Marie-Chantal of Greece is a neighbor. It''s now listed at $88 million, courtesy of the Modlin Group.
Let''s consider the townhouse apart from its owner. Valued at somewhere between $55 and $77 million, the 50-foot-wide (a rarity in this city), seven story home is one of the largest private homes in Manhattan. It was built in 1930 and designed by the famous Horace Trumbauer, the preferred architect of Gilded Age robber barons, whose works include the Elms mansion in Newport and the Harry Elkins Widener Memorial Library at Harvard. Princess Marie-Chantal of Greece is a neighbor, while the Frick is just across the street. To own this historic 40-room mansion would be a coup for any billionaire. -------- The seven-story townhouse sits between Fifth and Madison Avenues is one of the largest private homes in Manhattan. It is a desirable 50 feet wide with a 102.2 foot deep lot and has an excess of 28,000 square feet. There are 40 rooms including ten bedrooms which include three-room suites on the fourth floor, 15 bathrooms, a two-story reception room, and a heated sidewalk in front to melt the snow during the winter months. Not to mention lots of bad juju. It’s listed for $88 Million which is more than it was estimated to be worth and more than it’s valued for property taxes but the money will go tot benefit Epstein’s victims so I hope someone buys it for that price.
