Top reviews from the United States hhhMay 2.0 out of 5 stars Verified Purchase the moral obligation for a documentary maker Reviewed in the United States on November 9, 2019 As a Chinese viewer, I recognized some truth of this documentary. I also feel pain when I saw those infants were killed and deserted. However, I feel the movie itself is a propaganda film. It embodies many clips like military reviewing that was similar to the "Triumph of the will," which only implied that China is run by a centralized government like Nazi Germany. The documentary circled around one-single topic--China is bad and inhuman, and the government tries to do this all over again. Whether this statement is true or not, I do not think a documentary should be this one-sided. China was not the first country to mitigate population and it would not be the last. The thing that is more important than criticizing is to discuss that should government tries to control its population for the greater good. If they should, how could they do it in a better way. I am disappointed to see such a film because I think the filmmaker feel superiority over her Chinese family and most of those her rural relatives. She think that all of them have been mind-washed by the government, but she never tries to understand that every generation is different for a reason. one particular background shapes one particular generation. 694 people found this helpful
