If you are legally married, you normally cannot claim head of household status, even if you file a separate tax return and meet all the other requirements. However, the Internal Revenue Service offers exceptions in certain cases when you and your spouse have gone your separate ways.

Your check will be gradually reduced to zero if you're single, married filing a separate tax return, or a qualifying widow(er) with a 2019 adjusted gross income (AGI) above $75,000. If you're married (or a surviving spouse) and file a joint tax return, the amount of your second stimulus check will drop if your AGI exceeds $150,000. If you claim the head-of-household filing status on your tax return, your payment will be reduced if your AGI tops $112,500.

https://turbotax.intuit.com/tax-tips/family/guide-to-filing-taxes-as-head-of-household/L4Nx6DYu9 Considered unmarried The IRS also requires all taxpayers who file as head of household to be "considered unmarried" as of the last day of the tax year. To be considered unmarried means: You file a separate return You paid more than half of the cost of keeping up your home for the tax year Your spouse did not live in the home during the last 6 months of the tax year Your home was the main home for your child, step child, or foster child for at least 6 months of the tax year You must be able to claim the child as a dependent Keep in mind that if you and your spouse lived in separate homes due to a temporary circumstance, such as military service, business trips, a stay in a medical treatment facility, or attendance at college, the IRS still considers you married for that tax year.
不是, HOH 是o qualify for the Head of Household filingstatus while married, you must: File your taxes separately from your spouse. Pay more than half of the household expenses. Not have lived with your spouse for the last 6 months of the year.

You are considered married if any of the following are true: You are married and living together. You are living together in a common-law marriage, where recognized in the state you live in or in the state where the common law marriage began. You are married and living apart but not legally separated. You are separated under a temporary decree of divorce

这几种人满足一定条件可以file HOH not married (you were single, divorced, or legally separated), or were considered unmarried
https://www.efile.com/irs-head-of-household-tax-filing-status/ Qualifications for Head of Household You can efile your tax return using the Head of Household if you meet all 3 of these Head of Household filing status requirements: You were not married (you were single, divorced, or legally separated), or were considered unmarried on the last day of the tax year. You paid more than half the cost of keeping up a home for the year. A Qualifying Person lived with you in that home for more than half the year, except for temporary absences (a dependent parent is not required to live with you). Who Is Considered Unmarried? There are cases where a person is still legally married but lives separately from their spouse, who provides little or no support. Even if you are still legally married, you may be considered unmarried for the purposes of the Head of Household filing status if all of the following statements are true: You are not filing a joint return. You paid more than half of the costs of keeping up the home during the year. Your spouse did not live with you anytime during the last 6 months of the year (temporary absences don't count as not living with you). Your Qualifying Person is your child, stepchild, or foster child and they lived in your home for more than half the year (except temporary absences). You must be able to claim the child as a dependent however there is an exception to this if you can't claim the child as a dependent because the noncustodial parent can claim the child using the rules for Children of Divorced or Separated parents.

不是, HOH 是o qualify for the Head of Household filingstatus while married, you must: File your taxes separately from your spouse. Pay more than half of the household expenses. Not have lived with your spouse for the last 6 months of the year.

not married (you were single, divorced, or legally separated), or were considered unmarried

不过一般离婚的前奏是分居,一般不打算离婚的夫妻很少not live with you anytime during the last 6 months of the year吧,而且另一方都不怎么负担家用,当然也许有特殊情况。
Your spouse did not live with you anytime during the last 6 months of the year (temporary absences don't count as not living with you).
