My Grandpa was very successful, built a great company, etc. His children (my Dad & aunts / uncles) lived off my Grandpa's hard work, spent it all on extravagance, etc. When my Grandpa died, taxes took half - but there was plenty to go around still. Basically the kids of my Grandpa have done nothing, and will do nothing. Us grandkids will get the crumbs that's leftover - but the way I see it I am incredibly blessed to witness the growth of my Grandpa's company, see the power and most importantly (this is what I mean by power) freedom that wealth brings, so I strive to provide the same for my family as my Grandpa did. Two of my siblings married into one generation or another of this process, and the family of my partner is another small variation on the theme (one kid especially indulged, including stealing most of the family's wealth and fleeing the country, but still ended up passing nothing to his kids). Money brings out our inner motivations and defaults I think. Personally, I was raised by poor parents, so hard work from a young age for me. There were 4 of us in my family, all raised about the same. 2 married for money, and 2 worked their asses off. The two who married for money are both perennially broke, and the hard working two are both on their way to fat.
