Our father left my mother a year after I was born in 1950 and Don stepped up and into that role. We listened to this song in February 1971 the night before he was to report to the depot to be processed into the army as he was drafted into the war. Five weeks in country he stepped on a wooden land mine. When my mom was notified I listened to this song over and over again. A few weeks after he died I received a letter from Don and he talked about how much he loved spending that last night together talking and listening to music. He said that he would sing this song often. He was my best friend, he was everything to me, and whenever I hear this song can see his face, smell his odor, hear his voice, and feel his presence. It’s very weird. I love this song. Don, I know our country needed you like you said, but I needed you more. I never stopped loving you. I miss you Man! I’m an old man now but still remember everything from that night like it was yesterday.

To accept the things I cannot change, Courage to change the things I can, And Wisdom to know the difference.
