Go see a doctor again? Do not switch boobs too soon. Baby was probably getting too much foremilk, which is very water and can cause diarrhea. Put baby on your chest and skin to skin for as long as possible. Also nurse often and for longer each session. Do not worry about the every three hours schedule. If you have fast let down, lay down and let baby nurse nurse semi face down.
Pat pat, I believe that breastmilk is easier to absorb than formula. It also provides healthy bacteria to promote a healthy gut environment. I would go see a doctor before I switch from breastmilk to formula.
As for short latch time, you can consult a lactation consultant. My thought is, you could keep baby on your bare chest for longer. My dtr did a lot of dream feed. I was sitting on the nursing chair during majority of my wake time. She would be sleeping on my chest on a nursing pillow all the time. She nursed with eyes closed etc. We used the my brest friend nursing pillow. It was a life saver. I also had a lot of milk and my dtr was spitting up all the time. Lactation consultant told me to switch boob only every two hours, not every feed. In doing so, she gets less amount but more of the hindmilk.
