If raised and trained properly, all pitbulls are gentle, intelligent and lovable. Maybe not all, but the percentage of "bad" pitbulls is not that different from "bad" chihuahua, golden retriever, German shepherd etc. They are known for their dependability and loyal nature for over a hundred years. Aside from all those features, they are extremely funny and goofy. To me they are the best dogs ever.
Unfortunately some people exploited the menacing look and the muscular physical appearance of pitbulls. They over breed and "train" some pitbulls to turn them into fighting machines. Over the years the practice has led to an unusually skewed percentage of mean pitbulls, a percentage much higher than most other breeds of dogs. Remember, this won't happen at all if it is not for human intervention.
In short, the answer to your question is "yes". As in all breeds of dogs, there are always some dogs in each breed who attack their owners. For pitbulls, the chances are higher
