最近跟老板一对一、得到的feedback不好,这份工是我第五个公司,feedback是来自我的mentor。 I got feedback from him that I’m being too details oriented doing engineering work that’s not what they hired me for. Long story short : I had 30mins meeting with a mentor each week since I started the new job and I treated her as my friend so I told her everything happening on my projects. The mentor thinks I am being too details oriented by reviewing each piece of documents on the project which she thinks I’m not trusting the team members doing their jobs. So she bad mouthed me in front of my boss. My boss didn’t ask me about my side of the story but directly criticized me with what the mentor said(exactly copied the mentor’s verbiages). So I wrote the email back to my boss as below. I discovered errors after reviewing documents, which led me to ask questions and dig into the details. Since the consequences of such errors are against company policy to my knowledge, I thought mitigating those errors aligned with the role of a PM. Especially because if I hadn’t responded the way I did the errors could have negatively impacted our bottom line . 我说了要看文件啊,看完有不同意见或发现,先好好沟通一下。有时候公司政策具体到某个项目,会有一些调整,这些你了解过了吗?你给老板写的邮件语气有点冲,很defensive的感觉。真有顾虑against company policy,找老板一对一先谈,把问题摆出来,而不是邮件表达,看看老板的看法。还有敏感的东西不要留书面证据,你老板说不定不想你继续深挖,还白纸黑字的写在邮件里。我不是当事人,不了解你的感受,只是我自己当PM的经验。你觉得不合道理就略过好了。

她是个PM, 不是个auditor,花很多时间去找错误修正错误,的确和她的role不太align。还有啊,当面沟通比较好,看老板是不是move on 指的是让她不要花时间去盯着这些了而是专注做好PM

老板让你跟A学习,也许是老板在跟你打哈哈,你结果当真。观察别人说话做事都是学习啊,难道学习就一定要一对一,手把手么?
你还跟老板说A不知道这个新差事。我觉得你有点小题大作。
