Yang’s op-ed makes this very case for Asian Americans, and in doing so, completely misunderstands who needs to take responsibility for the uptick in xenophobia and harassment that’s emerged as the coronavirus outbreak has gotten worse.
“Three middle-aged men in hoodies and sweatshirts stood outside the entrance of the grocery store. They huddled together talking. One looked up at me and frowned. There was something accusatory in his eyes. And then, for the first time in years, I felt it. I felt self-conscious — even a bit ashamed — of being Asian.”
Yang’s op-ed makes this very case for Asian Americans, and in doing so, completely misunderstands who needs to take responsibility for the uptick in xenophobia and harassment that’s emerged as the coronavirus outbreak has gotten worse.
What a people pleaser. So other Americans can just be "okay-American" to be Americans. But Asian Americans have to be "extra-American" to earn to be Americans. Isn't this just another form of racism? The problem is not racism, but Asian American's not being American enough?
I responded, “The truth is that people are wired to make attributions based on appearance, including race. The best thing that could happen for Asians would be to get this virus under control so it isn’t a problem anymore. Then any racism would likely fade.” During World War II, Japanese Americans volunteered for military duty at the highest possible levels to demonstrate that they were Americans. Now many in the Asian American community are stepping up, trying to demonstrate that we can be part of the solution. Some 17 percent of U.S. doctors are Asian and rushing to the front lines. We Asian Americans need to embrace and show our American-ness in ways we never have before. We need to step up, help our neighbors, donate gear, vote, wear red white and blue, volunteer, fund aid organizations, and do everything in our power to accelerate the end of this crisis. We should show without a shadow of a doubt that we are Americans who will do our part for our country in this time of need. Demonstrate that we are part of the solution. We are not the virus, but we can be part of the cure.

oh wow, this guy self planted something sick in his own head. Anyone who is normal would not be ashamed of being Asian, just because some stupid people around the world are taking Chinese as piss for what's happening now. What a stupid idiot!
Does he really think that by putting himself in dust and publishing this low self-esteemed article would gain non-Asian American's favorable impression? Pathetic!!

It didn’t help that I was an awkward kid. But after adulthood, marriage, a career, parenthood, positions of leadership and even a presidential run, that feeling had disappeared — I thought.”
Japanese Americans speak out against Andrew Yang's call for Asian Americans to display patriotism “The article brought back memories of elders telling us how they were instructed by organizations to be ‘good Americans,’ when just being American should have been enough,” one Japanese American leader said. https://www.nbcnews.com/news/asian-america/japanese-americans-speak-out-against-andrew-yang-s-call-asian-n1176126 Cybercat 发表于 4/5/2020 9:55:09 AM

Yang

Totally agree with you.

Being American is enough !
