I am a constituent and I vote.
I have been following coronavirus news since mid-January when China initiated large-scale quarantine measures. Particularly recently, I have been very concerned about its rapid spread in the states, and it seems that the federal and local governments are not taking sufficient measures to contain the disease.
My concerns:
1. The U.S. government seems unprepared and public health messaging is muddled. The U.S. is not testing enough to have an accurate estimated case count. Without broader U.S. testing, we don't know what what we don't know.
2. Former FDA commissioner Scott Gottlieb just said on CNBC on March 4th that because of the lack of adequate testing in the past weeks and that we already have multiple cases of community transmission in the states, we have missed the window of opportunity for testing, but we still have the window of opportunity for mitigating, and we should seize the opportunity and no further delay any more!
3. What is your role in urging the congress and federal government to allocate funds in a timely manner to assist state and local governments in containing and mitigating the spread of COVID-19?
Particularly, I'd like to see how you help make sure efforts being put into the following areas: - Recruit and train volunteers including retired health workers - Local authorities have PPE such as masks to make sure our frontline healthcare professionals are properly protected - Electronic system to track hospital beds so that a patient can make informed decisions about if and where s/he would be able to get a bed in case the symptoms become severe enough to get professional medical care. - Alternate care sites (high schools, motels, etc. , e.g.: King county in Washington state is procuring a motel to be used as modular isolation units)
