Dr Li’s passing triggered a huge outcry among Chinese citizens calling for free speech. The memorial service will include poetry reading, flowers offering, speeches, etc. Whistles will also be distributed among attendees as a token reminder that Chinese students and citizens shall always dare to seek and speak the truth, despite fear, pressure and difficulties. The main organizers are current Columbia students, members from the NY Chinese Feminist Groups, as well as members from New York Chinese Culture Salon, a reputable nonprofit organization that organizes talks and intellectual discussions given by Chinese scholars, researchers and activists.
