Threat of the novel coronavirus outbreak to our state
Dear Senator XXX,
I am very concerned about the recent novel coronavirus outbreak in Wuhan, China and its threat to our state.
Since the first case of coronavirus in December, close to 3000 in China has been infected and 81 had died as of today. More than ten Chinese cities have enforced air and ground transportation bans to prevent the further spread of the virus. However, as more than 5 million people have already left the virus-origin city before the travel ban, and because this novel coronavirus can be infectious during incubation before any symptom shows, this poses severe threats to people in our state as hundreds of Chinese travelers enter our state everyday or transfer through our airports.
I wonder whether CDC will take any measures to deal with this global threat promptly. So far, some screening were being conducted in major airports, and suspect patients were promptly isolated, but this is far from enough--those infected could have already spread the virus long before they have symptoms. More strict measures need to be taken, and the window for containing the spread of the virus is very short. I urge you to look into this issue and call attention to the urgency of this issue.
Dear Senator / Congressman : The recent outbreak of Coronavirus in China has progressed so quickly. Within only 2 weeks, the virus has reached multiple major metropolis and other countries in Asia, Europe and North America. Announced news told 66 suspected and 5 confirmed cases declared in US.
According to the report from China, there were 5 million people who escaped Wuhan before the virus lockdown, January 25th 2020 is Chinese New Year. Traditionally large amounts of people travel nationwide or even internationally during this period to meet families and friends, which tremendously increases the chance of infection. Meanwhile, in the next few weeks, families went to China will travel back to America. It will definitely bring the virus into our country, and makes the next 2-4 weeks being the peak time of this infectious disease transmission.
The incubation period can be as long as 17 days. In previous reports, symptoms like fever, sore throat, sneezing are marked as the indicators to isolate infected individuals. However, during the incubation period, victim of the coronavirus are still highly infective even no signs of symptoms being observed. Secondary transmission outside of China is a significant factor behind the WHO's decision to announce or not announce a global PHEIC. The coronavirus is easily spread in schools, hospitals, restaurants, public transportation etc.
XXX (city/ state) has a large Chinese-American population. There were a lot of people traveling to China before or during the Chinese New Year. We cannot be overly cautious in protecting our children. I urged to call this matter to your attention and take immediate emergency action before it is too late.

Dear xxx: My name is xxx and my daughter xxx is in xxx grade at xxx school. I am writing to you to bring to your immediate attention on the recent severe outbreak of Coronavirus (aka Wuhan coronavirus) in China and the potential threat to our area. Within only 2 weeks, as of Jan 27, the virus has reached multiple Chinese major metropolis with more than 1.2 billion people, as well as other countries in Asia, Europe and North America. Currently the death toll from the Wuhan coronavirus now stands at 80, with almost 2,800 cases confirmed across China. In the US, CDC is closely monitoring the outbreak and has announced 66 suspected and 5 confirmed cases in four states (AZ, CA, IL, WA), including one confirmed case in the Chicago area. According to the reports from China, there were 5 million people who left Wuhan before the virus lockdown, January 25th 2020 is Chinese New Year. The new coronavirus is highly contagious but difficult to be screened. The incubation period can be as long as 17 days. In previous reports, symptoms like fever, sore throat, sneezing are marked as the indicators to isolate infected individuals. However, during the incubation period, victim of the coronavirus are still highly infective even no signs of symptoms being observed. Hence, the coronavirus could easily spread in schools, hospitals, restaurants, public transportation etc. xxx city, and the Chicago Metro area have a large Chinese-American population. There were a lot of people traveling to China before or during the Chinese New Year. We cannot be overly cautious in protecting our children. I urged to call this matter to your attention to be vigilant. It appears many students, parents, and school staff might not be aware of the danger. In addition, I am concerned that Chinese student may be avoided or blamed in school due to this. I suggest the school to be vigilant and proactive to protect them. Thank you for your attention.
