Very strange question from HR, it was none of their business. Plus, you were a contractor not an employee, there wouldn't be any payroll tax. Why do they need this information anyway? It's irrelevant to your next job.

要么你就说i believe my current employer pays all the payroll and other withholding taxes. 这样或许新公司会给你稍高的薪酬。否则如果你老板不付payroll tax 的话，新公司有可能给你的工资低于你现在的，因为新公司要付一部分payroll tax.

你或者说你不知道就好了。payroll tax 不是你当员工的责任。是你前老板的责任。如果你老板真有偷税漏税，也跟你没关系。HR问这些无非想压低你的薪水。

那就直接说自己的salary expectation as an employee not as a contractor 就好了。他有别的问题就问他help me understand how is it relevant to your hiring decision?
contractor 好像是有self employment tax 的，不过跟新雇主也没关系。不知道为啥问这个。
我选择的选择只有这一个。我已经找工作大半年了。current的工作和我背景完全不相关而且工资极低极低。所以即使potential公司不爽，但是和我背景match，给的工资高于我的contractor工资，我也忍了，我没有别的选择，我必须尽快回到自己老本行的工资。每个人都有自己的难处，请体谅

比如Robert Half，也是一个审计公司，当时我找Contractor To Hire的，也问了同样的问题，不过他们的目的不是压我工资，
是想尽办法帮我提高工资，因为Contractor To Hire最后成功的话，他们有30%-40%，我一年薪水的提成。
