They are pretty close to the metro, and provide free shuttle service from the community to the shady grove metro station (two-way). Very convenient. Could save you a lot of money on metro parking. Schools are average. I wouldn't recommend this area if you have school-aged child(ren). Since you work in DC, you would have to face the commute issue no matter what - assuming you choose to live in MD or VA. It may be an easier commute if you live in DC. However, i would personally cross that off the list considering the high crime rate in DC.
If you have more budget, Bethesda area may be a good option. Closer to DC (shorter metro ride) than Rockville, with good schools. Or, if you decide to live in rockville area, you could adjust your work hours to drive to work early to dodge the traffic and come home early. Some of my ex co-workers did that.
BTW After commuting to DC to work for so many years, i am so glad to finally find a job locally. One thing i don't miss for sure is the metro ride :)

Rockville includes Rockville city and suburban. I think only the city area has city tax (correct me if not). Rockville town center has metro station (right in middle of Rockville Town Center), had tons of stores and restaurants, library, town square ground for kids and shows, movie theater, art and dance school, etc. Also, A lot of Chinese, Asian restaurants and supermarket. I am proud of the city.

Ratings for some of the Wotton district schools (as well as your house value) might be affected if the rezoning does take place in the near future.

However, if there is metro delay or constructions, it will be another story. Also a quick tip, be extra careful with your cell phone if you tend to play with your smart phone on the metro. Mine got robbed a couple years ago during my morning commute on the metro. A black guy just snapped it from my hand and ran off (i was sitting in a seat close to the metro door). A terrible experience!

对，早上终点站基本就坐满了。第二站上来的人基本就没座位了。:-p. 下班回家比较痛苦，有时候要到最后一站才有位置。这条线上的房价一直比较高，所以大家都是只好往外搬。毕竟能住得起Bethesda, Chevy chase 的还是很少数啊。很多人是开车去bus stop, then take bus to metro station 然后再坐地铁。这都成了DC郊区commute 的常态了。所以你跟他们比起来已经很幸福了，至少不用等bus.

Virginia 呢？ kingfarm 到DC downtown上班太累。每天起码两个小时在路上。如果遇上single track修地铁，更久。除非你们公司可以telework。
老公在Columbia Maryland 上班 VA对他来说也不现实的 哎
这种情况大部分人都会选择住在columbia，在DC工作的那一个开车加坐地铁上班

说到这个……自从我老公看过我早上开车以后 就说你最好还是不要天天开车上班……主楼也说了我不是morning person, 所以才一直找地铁沿线的地方，东边地铁沿线的学区又不太好，所以就找到king farm这边了
School: South Redland Blvd, GCES, IB (Montgomery County 唯一IB program的小学。
没孩子可以买，可以住上6-7年，孩子5岁了再换房子。我觉得king farm挺方便的
Rockville towncenter附近没看到什么独立屋呢，不过会多关注下 谢谢
而且shady Grove 是终点站。你基本总能有个位子。睡觉刷手机都不错。

City里面是没什么像样的独立屋 community的，Rockville的公寓目前看不保值。如果你想买的话King Farm也行，因为你们暂时没有学区的需要。

germantown 怎么样？我看那边在盖新的独立屋。房子挺好看而且不贵。
如果对这个地区不熟悉， 建议先租房子， 来了之后再看看。
king farm学区一般， 虽然有single family home, lot相对小而且跟周围房子之间的距离很近。如果还考虑以后孩子上学， 老实说不建议买。
Germantown 有的小学不错。初中 高中 很多老中小孩都是考Gifted program。不过貌似 program 在慢慢被淡化 ---发自Huaren 官方 iOS APP

离DC 更远了。总之离downtown DC 越远房价就越便宜。
我也是亲眼看见有人在地铁上抢了人家手机就走。也是抢的靠门口的。
从那以后，我尽量不坐门口，而且每站停靠的时候，我就不看手机，把手机放包里或者抬头看看周围，我觉得这样被盯上的可能性会减少。不过这是偶然事件，你也不用紧张。我几年也就碰到一回。

之前看一个朋友说rockville的学区可能会re-zoning 这个是怎么回事，是说rockville一些地方 可能会跟Gaithersburg 合并吗？

那么不要看king farm这里了，离你们两个都太远了。
没有孩子的话，可以先考虑交通方便的地方，比如takoma park那边。离你们俩上班都近一些，而且因为位置好，房价也还算保值。说不定这两年你俩谁又换工作了。
有孩子的话，大多数老中选择potomac, north potomac, rockville这一带，但是在270西边。学区比较好。离地铁站会远一些，开车10-20分钟这样。
有很多50年代的独立屋。
