#China has locked up majority of the men in #ConcentrationCamps, leaving #Uyghur & other Turkic women to fend for themselves as they try to survive. When will the world wake up & stand against the #CCP’s brutal campaign of #genocide in #EastTurkistan (so-called “#Xinjiang”)? https://twitter.com/hashtag/Xinjiang?src=hashtag_click
George FitzHerbert A Cove House Production 2003. In Russian, Kirghiz and Uzbek with English Subtitles.
Post-Soviet Kyrgyzstan adjusts to structural reform.
All the music in this film was recorded in Kyrgyzstan in 2002. The film gives expression to the nostalgia felt by many in Kirghizia (Russian, Kirghiz, Uzbeks and others) about the passing of the Soviet Union. It focusses primarily on three people the same age as the filmmaker - a Kirghiz herder of the Bugu clan in the Tien Shan mountains south of Issyk Kul; a Russian family in Kadji Say on the shores of Issyk Kul who raise cash by selling mushrooms gathered in the mountains, and a Kyrgyz bus-driver in Bishkek.
The film also travels to Jalalabad and Osh in the Ferghana Valley. The section in Batkyn did not make this edit.
The film was shot over two months in 2002 by George FitzHerbert, Zamir Toktoev and Christoph Warrack, and was edited at Harvard University VES Dept by George FitzHerbert. The total budget for the film was around £1,500.
Shto Novovo was selected for screening by the DocHouse, London in 2003, and was Pick of the Week in London Time Out.
