Hillary - the women's rights champion - defended a child molester who raped a 12-year-old girl, then laughed about knowing he was guilty.

I agree, Hillary was an attorney at that time, and that was her job. She was good at it. But how could she went to a talk show and laugh about it, being a woman herself? that is just cold heartless.

She also called this little girl "bitch". She has a daughter her self. How would she feel if she was raped while she was 12 years old? How would she feel if her daughter was raped while she was 12 years old?

she didn't laugh about the plaintiff. she laughed at how absurd the legal system truly was. the first laugh was about the prosecutor not giving her the required evidence. The second was about the defendant passing a polygraph test, which as she said, destroyed her faith in polygraph.

why she laughed? this is a debatable topic, everyone sees it different. By the way I am reading it, she is not ashamed of hurting the poor girl and ruining her life. If I were Hillary, I probably would never talk about the win because I would be so ashamed of myself. I would probably feel guilty towards the girl for the rest of my life....let alone bringing her back to the public attention by not avoiding discussing the case in the talk show.
As you mentioned, she said that the defendant's passing the polygraph destroyed her faith in it------which means, Hillary knew it, she knew he was guilty--------------------------------I don't blame her for doing her job professionally, I hate that she didn't care about the victim at all when she knew the girl was ruined by the justice that didn't do her right.

that's what being a defense lawyer is. She believed that the defendant is guilty. She is still under professional obligation to defend him fully. That's how the system works. The lawyers don't decide the guilt. The judge and the jury does.
I mean would you rather that she purposely lose the case if she thought he was guilty? If today you were accused of a crime, would you rather your public defender decide for herself that you were guilty, or so her best and let the court decide?

Of course not, I repeatedly said Hillary was doing her job--and she did well. I mean would you rather consider that she has conscious left when she brought the public attention back to the poor ruined girl? Anyone who has a heart wouldn't do that, would you agree?
"Of course he claimed he didn’t. All this stuff. He took a lie detector test. I had him take a polygraph, which he passed, which forever destroyed my faith in polygraphs. [laughs]"
"So I got an order to see the evidence and the prosecutor didn’t want me to see the evidence. I had to go to Maupin Cummings and convince Maupin that yes indeed I had a right to see the evidence [laughs] before it was presented."

she didn't do that. She never even talked about the defendant at all. It was the conservative media who tried to use this to attack her that brought the attention back onto the case.

She should have refused to talk about the case at the first place. If I were her, I would just say that I had a few wins or lose, and I wouldn't get into details because that's against my ethics. Is it too hard for her? or she just didn't feel sorry for the victim AT ALL that she couldn't care less to come up with that?

you do realize that the 1980 article was never published, and the recording was of the interview for the article, not the actual program to be released right?
Perhaps you're right, she shouldn't have talked about the case in such detail. At the same time, I think there's some value in talking about mishandling of justice by the court system against public defenders like this. This is hard to judge. But she had never talked about the girl at all. In fact, the girl didn't even know that Hilary Clinton was her defendant until 2008. Calling Hilary a rape enabler for this is a disrespect to all public defenders.

I would not call her enabler. I just hate the way she talks about the case, she was not ashamed or maybe never realized that the victim was raped and hurt once, then lost the case and ruined for the rest of her life.... And that's what we disagree, but it's fine, we agree to disagree. Anyhow, I am heading out, good talk. hope no more fighting and cursing here....
"She was vigorously advocating for her client. What she did was appropriate," said Andrew Schepard, director of Hofstra Law School's Center for Children, Families and the Law. "He was lucky to have her as a lawyer ... In terms of what's good for the little girl? It would have been hell on the victim. But that wasn't Hillary's problem." [Newsday, 2/24/08, via Nexis]
Libertarian lawyer Jonathan Adler wrote of the case for The Washington Post (https://www.washingtonpost.com/news/volokh-conspiracy/wp/2014/06/20/is-hillary-clintons-conduct-as-a-young-attorney-fair-game/): Much, if not all, of the criticism of Clinton resulting from this story is misplaced. She was asked (by the prosecutor, no less) to represent a criminal defendant. Her client was accused of raping a 12-year-old girl. From what I can tell, Clinton believed her client was guilty but was nonetheless able to obtain a favorable plea deal because the government had mishandled incriminating evidence. ... What should we make of this story? Perhaps nothing more than that Hillary Clinton represented someone in need and fulfilled her duty as a member of the bar to provide a zealous defense of her client. This is not something for which she should be attacked. We are all the worse off if the message sent to young lawyers is that representing guilty or unpopular clients is likely to be a political liability down the road. Ably and effectively representing a criminal defendant - even one you believe to be guilty - is not "scummy" or inappropriate. Forcing the state to prove its case before it deprives an individual of their life, liberty or property is a noble endeavor.

Innocent until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt.

Innocent until proven guilty. Remember Duke Lacrosse?
