I totally understand what you said, and respect your feeling, however, you really don't have to consider them as your 同胞们. they are chinese, assume you are chinese american, which are similar to indian american, african american, etc., all are considered as american people, not chinese people. chinese refer to people who were born in china and live in china without citizenship from other countries(except the gold digger Miss Gu). Chinese also refer to some people who work for the chinese embassy with diplomatic immunity.
