As a matter of fact, I have some in-depth observations on the business model of private schools through out US. They may be diversified in the most superficial layer, but deep down to the bottom, there is a common line: money. It is not anybody's fault but they cannot survive without it since they do not have the mandatory public tax sytem to support them, and utilitarianism is essential for anyone to survive in private sectors.

Not sure about whatever model how private schools run, just share my observation that we have not heard about the thing you mentioned in your post. BTW, not trying to be offending or judegmental, just want to share my observation. Now from ur post i know some private schools are like what u said. Happy to know some new things.

每年50左右去大藤和小腾。基本上人家要你了，你的藤就迈进一般啦
私校的最大问题就是功利性太强，一切都是为了学校盈利的目的。比如在组建校队参加比赛上，基本只看成绩不顾学生的兴趣。我知道一个私校就不允许学生同时参加两种学科的比赛，尽管孩子对两个学科都有兴趣。在报名大学的时候，也不许学生做ED，并且要求学生大面积撒网申请，以便获得更大的录取数量。
相比之下，公校的环境就宽松多了，只要学校够大，有动力的学生能享受的资源绝对不比私校少。所以如果成绩能达到top 10%，并且能自觉学习，真的不要去私校。
