APAD: Make it make sense

When I was listening to the speech given by Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau two days ago, one particular phrase caught my attention:  "Make that make sense".

So I checked wikiHow, and found it's twin brother: "Make it make sense" as below (with editing).

Origin:
Make it make sense” is an extension of the phrase “make sense.”

Meaning:
Make it make sense” is a short, casual way to say, “Explain this in a way that’s logical.” The person saying it wants to jokingly point out an absurd situation. It’s a popular slang phrase on social media.

In this case, it may seem like the speaker is asking for clarity, but they don’t expect a reasonable explanation (probably because there isn't one). Using “make it make sense” in this context usually involves some level of frustration because the situation is absurd.

There are many funny, casual ways to ask someone to explain something. Several of them use self-deprecating humor, or humor that makes the joker the butt of the joke.

“Explain it like I just came down from Mars.”
“Repeat that in English.”
“Welcome to the Twilight Zone.”
“This is off-the-charts bizarre.”
“We’re in a clown show.”

I turned to Maowi the cat, who has dual citizenship (he was born in Tucson USA), and said: "Make it make sense".

Here is the picture he likes:

What Canadian prime minster said makes sense to me

What Trump barked recently makes absoultely no sense whatsoever.

最近陆陆续续听到世界上不少国家的领导人的讲话,大多数具备国家领导人的气质。例外的就是床铺这个东西,他整个一个装疯卖傻哗众取宠。

明白了。我还以为‘make it’是‘自圆’,‘make sense’是‘其说’呢 :)
