This proverb advises us to enjoy food and drink but to do so in moderation. We should savor the flavors and pleasures of eating and drinking but be mindful of how much we consume. It’s a reminder that overindulgence can have negative consequences on our health and well-being, and we should strive for balance and moderation in all things.
There is a long forgotten book named【Eat at pleasure, drink with measure】by Olof Wijk et al.
Here is what the book about : Olof Wijk was a director of the wine merchant. Elizabeth David was a British cookery writer. In 1960 Olof came up with the inspired idea of sending out food and wine leaflets to his clients. Elizabeth David would write the recipes, and Olof would contribute his own thoughts on wine. The result was a charming semi-autobiographical seasonal anthology (including delightful wood-cuts by Yvonne Skargon in the manner of Thomas Bewick, poetry and historical quotations), which Constable re-published in book form in 1970. In the era when life was relatively slow and simple it's a bedside companion, like having a civilised old friend at one's elbow.
a so common common sense ;-)) talent, taste, wit, goodSense
"Talent, taste, wit, good sense are very different things but by no means incompatible. Between good sense and good taste there exists the same difference as between cause and effect, and between wit and talent there is the same proportion as between a whole and its parts."
