"Where Is Home, Little Pip?" is a children's book.
It's a story about a little penguin. She and her parents lived in a pebbly nest by a stormy sea. Her parents always told her not to wander far away from the nest. She listened. But one day, she saw a black and glittery feather, and started chasing the feather blown around by the wind. She went further and further away from home on her chase. When she finally caught the feather and turned around for home, her home was not there. She was sad and scared. She marched forward to find her home. On her way searching for her home, she met some friendly animals, who knew where their own homes were, but didn't know where Pip's home was. She then remembered the song her parents sang to her every night at home. She started singing the song:
"Our home is where the land is free from hill or mountain, or twig of tree, in our pebbly nest by the stormy sea, where mama and papa and pip makes three."
Her parents heard her singing and found her. She was very tired by then. Her parents told her to rest there and then. She asked: Aren't we going home? Her parents asked her: Where is home, little Pip? and sang this song:
"Where is home? Is it far or near? Is a pebbly nest what we all hold dear? No, home is where nothing to fear. Since we are together, home is right here."
Little Pip smiled and fell asleep peacefully surrounded by her parents.
It's a lovely heart-warming story. I remember I loved to read this book with my daughter. While I was reading out loud to her, she would point out the things in the book and asked me a lot of questions. Those are such nice memories.
Last week, we went on a vacation. Due to the extreme weather in Northwest, our returning flight was canceled. We were stranded at the airport for a while. We had to rebook a next-day flight and find a hotel near by the airport. That night, in the hotel room, this story came to my mind.
Where is home? Home is where the whole family is together, and nothing to fear. It could be a corner of an airport, a hotel room near the airport, or a cozy house by the sea. As long as we are together and safe, a home is found. :)
