The Yang ban xi (Model Theatrical Works) of Beijing opera was very popular during the age of the Cultural Revolution from the 1960s to 1970s. It has 19 plays in total, but only the first 8 of them were well known by people. These 8 Yang ban xi were played for the first time in public on May 1, 1957.
In my childhood, I heard them almost everyday, so the Melody of Yang ban xi
is deeply marked up in my memory. Entering the 1980s, for some reasons, Yang ban xi was criticized, no longer performing in public. Like most people, I never sang it again. Until a few weeks ago, when i was cooking in the kitchen, I suddenly remembered Yang ban xi, and sang a piece of it.
