Thanks beautifulwind for giving me this opportunity to host today's English exercise. Today I add an optional Reading Comprehension exercise, and you are welcome to read that paragraph.
1. Sometimes one pays most for the things one gets for nothing. 2. The world can be changed by man's endeavor, and that this endeavor can lead to something new and better. No man can sever the bonds that unite him to his society simply by averting his eyes. He must ever be receptive and sensitive to the new; and have sufficient courage and skill to novel facts and to deal with them.
【English Idioms】 Please create a sentence using the idioms.
1. Once in a blue moon Example: We work on different schedules. I only see him once in a blue moon. 2. Bite off more than you can chew Example: Nancy started to repair her car by herself, but she realized that she had bitten off more than she could chew.
【Reading Comprehension】(Optional)
In a calm sea every man is pilot. But all sunshine without shade, all pleasure without pain, is not life at all. Take the lot of the happiest – it is a tangled yarn. Bereavements and blessings, one following another, make us sad and blessed by turns. Even death itself makes life more loving. Men come closest to their true selves in the sober moments of life, under the shadows of sorrow and loss. In the affairs of life or business, it is not intellect that tells so much as character, not brains so much as heart, not genius so much as self-control, patience, and discipline, regulated by judgment. I have always believed that the man who has begun to live more seriously within begins to live more simply without. In an age of extravagance and waste, I wish I could show to the world how few the real wants of humanity are. To regret one’s errors to the point of not repeating them is true repentance. There is nothing noble in being superior to some other man. The true nobility is in being superior to your previous self.
