这是我对科技公司工资结构的理解
从管理的角度看,一个层次的DIRECTREPORT以五个人为限。
5**1=5,5**2=25,5**3=125,5**4=625,5**5=3125,5**6=15625。。
GOOGL这样的公司,有大概两万做软件的(GOOGLE人很多,扫地做饭的不能也数进去),最高层L8只有4个人,以此类推,L7只有25个人,L6,125人,L5,625人,L4,3125人。
拿到L7的只是接近1/800。
或者你说,进门就是L4,那中间只有4级,每级的DIRECTREPORT大概10个,L7 有40个,L6 400个, L5 4000个,剩下的是L4。
拿到L7的只是接近1/500。拿到L6的只是接近1/50。
无论哪种,能混到L7的确实是行业翘楚了,非常人也。
我早说过,我对这些公司一无所知,就算是胡说八道吧。
牛人肯定有,但比较少。
知道有爱因斯坦,不能因为听到了爱因斯坦的故事,就觉得搞科学的都是爱因斯坦这样的人了!

谷歌这种大公司的机构臃肿可能超过了大家的想象,一大堆VP director也不奇怪。而且不是只有谷歌,很多大小公司可以match谷歌的薪水,例如OpenAI,Roblox,Snowflake等
我弟闯荡硅谷30年, 我问过他有没有想进8, 他说基本上现在就这样了, 再上就是命了。
随便一个上万人的科技公司,VP就得一百人,信不信由你。
Senior director 被裁的风险增大很多, 基本都是50岁以上的,早财富自由的一批, 5-10米肯定都有的。
科技公司的margin可以高到50%。
高科技公司不是你想像的那种传统公司,一定要管很多人才能大几十万收入的,就是有一批靠技术靠带项目收入不错的纯技术人人员,类似项目经理,他们带领一批设计人员设计生产出一个又一个新的软件产品或者功能,或者新的芯片产品。这批人是技术核心,都极聪明又富有10几20年行业产品一线经验,走出去就是小公司的CTO。几十万年薪其实是被剥削了。
VP管理层,不单是语言,还有文化/爱好/习俗等等(除非ABC或从小来美的),连那些俚语典故笑话都听不懂,很难融入真正老美圈子,越大公司人际关系也越复杂,明争暗斗,管人才是最难的。

有人通过LinkedIn 做了统计, 大约总共有950 L6, 300 L7, 110L8, 27 L9, 4 L10。 这个统计是2015年做的有些out of date,但是数量级应该差不多。那么L7& +总共有500人左右. 这些人都要求 significant impact and delivered mission critical projects. 非常有要求。
