“Stress 压力 is a common occurrence. While you can’t remove every single stressor from your life, it’s possible to manage stress and maintain your health. This is important because stress can cause mental fatigue, irritability, and insomnia. But even if you know the physical effects of stress, you may be unaware of the different stages of stress, known as general adaptation syndrome (GAS). When you understand the different stages of stress and how the body responds in these stages, it’s easier to identify signs of chronic stress in yourself.”
第二阶段,resistance,阻力阶段,After the initial shock of a stressful event and having a fight-or-flight response, the body begins to repair itself. It releases a lower amount of cortisol, and your heart rate and blood pressure begin to normalize. Although your body enters this recovery phase, it remains on high alert for a while. If you overcome stress and the situation is no longer an issue, your body continues to repair itself until your hormone levels, heart rate, and blood pressure reach a pre-stress state.

中国军队里据说打仗时教育的口号是,宁死不投降。
但美国军队在越战时的口号是,让你放下武器时,千万别抵抗,好死不如赖活着。
在9.11事件前,美国航空公司对驾驶员和乘务员的指示是,碰见劫机的,不要抵抗。但没想到恐怖分子搞了一个玉石俱焚。
西方人特别是美国人不仅怕死,而且怕疼,怕苦,怕压力,所以听到‘压力对健康有益“这种观点,以为这是新发现,实际上不过是中国人知道了几千年的东西。
如中国古训:
“天将降大任于斯人也,必先苦其心志,劳其筋骨,饿其体肤,空乏其身,行拂乱其所为,所以动心忍性,曾益其所不能“

还如:要甜先苦,要逸先劳,
生于忧患,死于安乐,
一生之计在于勤
少壮不努力,老大徒伤悲
要想身体安,三分饥和寒。
当然美国人的怕死哲学也导致了很多发明,如你死我活的原子弹,导弹,抗生素等。

人体对抗压力,有三个阶段,General adaptation syndrome stages,包括三个阶段,
第一个阶段,alarm阶段, 身体产生 “fight-or-flight” response。警报反应阶段是指人体在压力下所经历的初始症状,“战斗还是逃跑”的反应,这是对压力的生理反应。这种自然反应会使人在危险情况下逃离或保护自己。心率增加,肾上腺释放皮质醇,肾上腺素会增强,使人增加能量。这种战斗或逃避反应发生在警报反应阶段是有益处的。如果从心理上积极反应到压力,能给人增加动力。

在这个阶段,身体继续分泌压力荷尔蒙,人血压仍然升高。在这阶段,可能认为自己可以很好地应对压力,但是身体的身体反应却讲述了一个不同的故事。如果阻力阶段持续了太长时间而没有间断以抵消压力的影响,就会导致疲劳阶段。 抵抗阶段的signs 包括: 易怒,易折,注意力不集中等。
在第一阶段与第二阶段和第三阶段之间,会产生Coping (recovery)和Adaptation反应,这要看个体对压力的心理生理coping能力了。
第三阶段,是很危险的阶段,exhaustion. 长时间与压力作斗争会消耗身体,情感和精神资源,使身体不再具有抵抗压力的力量。这时候,人会放弃,或者感到自己的处境绝望。这个阶段的signs包括:fatigue, burnout, depression, anxiety, decreased stress tolerance, 在此阶段,人体免疫能力下降,身体处于与压力有关的疾病的危险中。
