Petra trail 如果不能從 Back Door 进 由 Monastery 走到 Treasury ，就需要 double back, 大概六七小时，还要爬一个八百多石階上去，再爬下来。 Back Door 入口 能让 Bedouin 们的 4x4 到大概 1.5 KM 就是 Monastery 上方 的，那段路五月时关闭 現在仍然没有消息重开。 如果要從 Little Petra 走起 那是 走 8 KM+ 在荒野中才能走到这个点，还不如在 Treasury 入 做 Double Back. 不管怎么样，烈日下五六个小时是不能避免的，除非放弃 Monastery.

物理防晒霜不知道在当地容不容易買到 质量如何。帶的話要 check bag。我们在多哈有十二小时 layover. Check bag 很 tricky。Check thru to Amman with such long layover 可能会弄丢，或者根本不可能，因为 overnight. 而且如果要在多哈 claim 那个checked bag, 可能变成入境而不是 transit. Transit Doha 没有 Covid related 要求，入境多哈的 Covid related 要求极为复杂而且难做， 因为 卡塔尔的系统好像是 manually review the submission then manually approved! Totally nuts.

I honestly dont understand why you are willing to spend boatloads of money on the Ponant Antarctica cruise while so skimpy on the Egypt trip, from the Nile cruise to the local guides to the fairly reasonable priced flights... The cost for an Egypt trip is probably less than 1/7 of a Ponant Austral.
Actually, there is a few things I want to try. First, I want to watch the sound light night show at Abu Simbel, so I'll have to take my luggage and stay in hotel at ABS overnight. I found no document of restrictions on luggage though. I also want to see Abu simbel from air plane view(if I can find a seat on left hand side). Going back to Aswan, I want to see mirage from desert, this plan also avoided round trip car ride. I don't think any travel agent can organize this kind of customization for me. :-) For those who put luggage experience on trip advisor, I would leave my laptop on airplane safer than take it to shuttle bus. This is not applicable to me as I'll take all my stuff with me and taxi to hotel. Currently, I haven't found any flaw on my plan. As people may not understand, my travel style is a combination of 2 extremes. Just booked MS tickets to Aswan, you're right, only bogus business class seats are available now, but hey, it's not too much expensive, and it has lounge access in CAI, not sure how bogus that lounge is :-) Anyway, if my plan ends up with working well, I'll have a comprehensive experience in Egypt. As you already discovered, flights disappeared or went up a lot in prices. Ditto for the BonVoy hotels in Cairo. They all went up by 3 to 5K in points and of course 10 to 15% in rates since May or June.
The MS lounge in CAI is very small, like 20 persons capacity
I checked that before getting our flight CAI-LHR - because BA also uses MS lounge at CAI. People of both Star Alliance and of course OneWorld on BA, have endless complaints on the very poorly equipped lounge.
For your overnight at Abu Simbel, surely there are providers cater for that, and also want an arm and a leg from those who want to have the "experiences". Go to either Viator or TripAdvisor, search Abu Simbel Sound and Light Show - you will find at least 1/2 a doz or more providers on such.
My opinion on traveling in 3rd world countries, is that extra services that normally you do not need, are wellworth to spend on, because doing so would avoid lots and lots of nuiances / annoyances / frustrations. Sure, one can still do be the true and true DIY person but NOT worth the hassles in 3rd world countries!
For that matter, using pre-reserved online transportation service would be quite a bit more than getting a local taxi. But then you dont have to haggle with the local taxi drivers, who 10 out of 10 would tell you the meters do not work. You then negotiate the fare with him until one is willing to take your fare... I dont want to be on the street outside the hotel or the sight, spend 10, 15 min haggling with each taxi driver who would stop and then got one you two come to an agreement. What a waste of the traveller's time and energy on such haggling. YMMV naturally.
I firmly believe services that have a clearly stated price tags, and from reliable providers, are well worth the extra EGPs paid over whatever the EGP cash you eventually agreed after the haggling. You can try Uber or the local Uber but it depends on the traffic, they are not very reliable. The advantage is, your app will be in English so supposedly no language barrier. For us, the ONLY transportation we would need in Cairo is the last day from hotel to CAI. Everything else, is incl in the tour package. In Luxor where we stay for 3 nights, we may need taxi in the evening if we want to wonder out further. The hotel Misr used, is quite close to town center, versus Hilton resort which is at the North of town center. Hence we opted to let Misr take care of the hotel in Luxor while we book the hotels in Cairo ourselves.
Besides, the services in Egypt are fairly cheap. What are expensive, especially when considering the income levels of the locals, are the meal costs in tourist towns like Luxor and Aswan, especially Luxor. That is unavoidable, so be it.

If the functions are the same, I would not pay for the look. Coolibar is really charging a premium. Let those who have the need to have hundreds of personal pix then send to their friends circles pay for that premium. Haha.
Interestingly I also found it definitely is worth the time to shop around. Identical items could be priced 50 to 60% differently on various sites!
One Buff Gaiter might have a flash sale on REI site last Friday? when I first saw it. It was a sale price around $19. Yesterday when I pulled it up from bookmark - the darn thing is back to $30. BUT, identical technology same brand name Buff, very very similar print (wild life with a grizzly) - it is available on Amazon at $12 !!!
Another thing probably most others already knew - I found Amazon often price same products by different colors and sizes, based on its inventory level on the item no doubt.

所以現在正研究有 UPF rating 的帽子 最好是那种两側和后面有 flap 的，圍脖 和長?子上衣 或者袖套。

火車 Luxor 回开罗是一个近十小时的白天 到开罗已经入黑了。 而且沿途有值得的景色很少。 这个体验於我來看比鸡肋还差。同理 在埃及用 guides 是不想要被无数 hawkers pester 的体验。 Guides 替你挡了一大部分这些 annoyance. 不是所有的体验都是值得的. Of course this is the classical YMMV.
