I myself never thought of it, yet it makes great sense once you have pointed it out.
I've noticed that there seems to be two types of scientists (or mathematicians, philosophers, artists etc): those who function at the level of knowledge and those at the level of perception 覺知. The former perform their duties within some established frameworks built with readily knowledge, the later underneath it from where new frameworks rise. Only the later can do fundamental work. Borrowing from Buddhist ideas, their works come from something closer to 覺性 which is the true source of knowledge. All knowledge is secondary in this sense. Einstein clearly belongs to the later camp which has a much smaller number of members.
Therefore I think science can be a form of 智慧學 , but only typically in the hands like Einstein's. This is why it is less commonly practiced that way.
General relativity does not utilize the axioms in Reimannian geometry. General relativity utilizes Reimannian geometry itself. Reimannian geometry is a language for general relativity. It may be the best language but not the only language.
General relativity has its own "axioms". I believe they are called "postulates" in physics instead.
As I see it postulates of general relativity, roughly in short: 1, locally special relativity holds true. 2, globally equivalence principle holds true.
Axioms for Riemannian geometry are something else. You can look them up for yourself.
人类生存,有两种需求,一是物质上更舒适,二是精神上更舒适。
前者由科学来实现。
假设后者也由一门学问来实现,那么姑且把它叫做智慧学。
有没有?这么叫合理不合理?不重要,因为是个假设。
这样,科学的价值与意义就可以估量了:可以说,是难以估量。
为啥?
因为科学让人拥有认识改造世界的力量,给人带来舒适。除此之外,还在相当大的程度上承担了人类的精神负担:科学也让人精神更轻松,更稳定,减轻了智慧学所面对的负担和干扰。
科学严谨,智慧学玄奥,科学是怎么缓解了智慧学的压力的?
两个方面。
一是科学提供了一些稳定不移而普通人又容易理解的知识,让大部分人产生前所未有的安全感和自信。
不要小看了这种安全感和自信,这是社会安定的重要条件。而且,如果没有科学,这种安全感和自信需要成为相当杰出的人物比如高级屠夫高级理发匠才能拥有。而有了科学以后,受过中学教育以上的人就都有了非常坚实的了解了世界了解了一切的信心。他们就安心于此,成为物质世界进化的动力而不是障碍。
如果没有科学,让这部分人学哲学,学思辨,搞名实之辨这种话题,很可能听得玄玄乎乎,云里雾里的,还没等看懂就已经腻歪了。严重一点儿,说不定会起来把老师毒死。
搞点儿立竿见影的科学,一灌输,马上恍然大悟志得意满唯我独尊不理哲学家了。在这个意义上,科学救了严肃的或者健谈的街头哲学家。
二是直接清理智慧学的队伍。如果学习的主要内容不是科学而是哲学或者别的学,这些教条机械急需安全感而不得的头脑就会蜂拥到其他的学中去,比如中国古代就都拥到儒学里来找功名了。但他们的思维又实在不够形名体用神人之类的思辨,勉强为之,就难免抱怨愤恨,说一套做一套。结果就是产生大批的伪君子,让人对儒学教会什么的产生怀疑与厌烦。这对于真正的智慧学来说是非常要命的,失信于民,没人对你感兴趣了。
失信的原因是什么?就是队伍中混进了大量的根本不知道自己在搞什么的人。
中西古今,这种例子太多了,伤害太大了。
但是幸好,科学来了,成了幸福生活的敲门砖。于是这部分人基本上被科学吸走了。哈哈,科学真是智慧的救命稻草啊。要是没有科学,智慧之学估计早就被那些会思考但是没灵气的头脑活活淹死了。
智慧之学有两个对手,一是科学,一是愚昧。
在古希腊灵光一现,被科学吞没了。
在中国印度,灵光二现三现,但时间久了,也快被愚昧与世俗吞没了。
现在中西相遇,科学反而成了智慧学的帮手。科学收容愚昧,并且产生了很多智者科学家,以科学的形式来阐述智慧的原理。虽然多数被收容的人还是不懂不信,但是如果搬出爱因斯坦来,他们一般也不会象蔑视老子一样来表达自己的想法。
所以,智慧学是什么?这个名字合适不合适?
不重要。
本贴说的是科学给人类带来希望,以及怎么带来希望。假设未来有一百磅重,科学自己就承担了98巴仙。那两巴仙是什么,一般人不需要知道。
所以,俺屡放”科学不过是。。。“的厥词并不是不尊重科学,也不是认为”中国古代的思想“可以取代科学,也不是认为”中国古代思想“比科学还高明,而只是在说那两巴仙中的两巴仙。跟科学不是一回事。

觉得科学使我们取得了很多很大的成就可以看见可以历数,但精神的追求最终使人敲定“我是谁”这个句子在自己的墓志铭上.
都属于罕见的两巴仙。
这世界,科学是最高限度,容不下更好的啦。
