EVERETT, Wash. - The looming medical supply shortage facing healthcare workers on the frontlines of the coronavirus battle has one local hospital asking for volunteers to make its own medical masks.
As part of its "100 Million Mask Challenge" Providence Hospital is beginning its efforts to combat the shortage of medical masks.
The hospital is asking for volunteers with the ability to sew and has a sewing machine at home to make at least 100 masks.
Volunteers with a penchant for sewing can sign up HERE to take the challenge and address a medical shortage that would put healthcare workers at risk.
"So, we’re calling on you!" Providence Hospital said on its website. "Anyone with a willing heart and the ability to sew can help us protect our caregivers by sewing masks they can wear on the front lines of the fight against COVID-19."
Kits with enough materials to make 100 medical masks will be offered March 26 from 12-4 p.m. at Providence St. Joseph Health, located at 1801 Lind Ave. S.W. in Renton.
"Let’s come together to keep our health care workers safe, so they can safely care for our patients," the hospital said.
Providence Hospital plans on expanding its efforts in the future to allow more volunteers to participate.
