When this concept was first introduced, the public's reaction was mixed. Some thought it was a good idea as it provided additional safety against possible assaults and unexpected surprises, as well as a little more space to maneuver things like baby strollers in and out of the vehicles. Some people felt it was insulting as it implied that female drivers aren't good at parking.

the park was full of moms with babies. Perhaps they didn't want to use the designated parking spots.
