As of now we’re asking people to not donate to the Gofundme until we can figure what really happened with Brant Carnwath. Several Instagram users have marked Carnwath’s story as suspicious. Additionally, actor Peter Shinkoda who vouched for the story took down his original Instagram post describing what happened.
I have been following this after the post from @jackfroot and I grew highly suspicious of the story. I did some digging and investigation to find the legitimacy of this story and discovered that there are many inconsistency of what is being told and what actually happened. Per brant’s fb page, this incident happened on April 7th-after scrolling through the comments, not once did brant mentioned that he stepped in to help a defenseless girl from “4” racist attackers. I don’t doubt that brant got knocked out and blacked during a night of drinking and went to the hospital, but I doubt the narrative that he stepped in and defended an Asian American girl from a racist attack. If you look at the pic posted- brants brother, Scott posted a gofundme page that copy and pasted what Peter had to say with the story of brant saving an “Asian” girl. After I called Scott out on the legitimacy of what happened with date and time and specific location, he later changed the gofundme description and also posted a snap of the location and what took place which showed inconsistencies. Scott also deleted my comment and blocked me on his Instagram After jackfroot and Peter’s posting, it got around to the Asian community that a white man saved an Asian girl and got laid out for it. It got traction and they took that story and ran with it. I also came across his fb page where someone asked him about what exactly happened and not once did he mention that it was 4 racist attackers and an Asian woman. We as Asians are in a crisis during this time of hate and for this story to have this narrative, we empathize for the hero that stepped in. But this story doesn’t ring true to me so as an Asian American, I feel like I need to speak up when I feel like something isn’t right here. Currently brant’s gofundme is flooded with donations from Asians around the world praising his actions but as what I have discovered showed a different story. They are using this narrative for their own gain. Take a look of what I have and be your own judge.
对不起各位,如果因为我昨晚上发的贴子使人上当了,实在抱歉!
