U.S. foreign policy "hawks project their own aggressive global ambitions onto China and assume that Chinese foreign policy must be an ideologically driven, missionary one like the one they support." This is ultimately the great tragedy of U.S. foreign policy, self-imposing our ideals as the same as the chief aspirations of foreign populations. It's what drives the "democracy promotion" ethos in our diplomatic corps, the containment and military basing paradigm in Pentagon, and the covert for support for opposition parties and mass surveillance in the intel community. It's why we thought Iraq would be a cakewalk after introducing elections, why USAID spends most of their money on social justice training foreign civil society groups (while the Chinese are building infrastructure), and why calls for "values-based" alliances in the rebranded "Indo-Pacific" is a farce.
U.S.: "Give me liberty, or give me death!" World: "Ummm... I'll take life and prosperity, please?"
What benefits would these nations gain to participate US' Cold War against China? I mean genuine gold and silver, not what Republican's version of " American value" which worth perhaps 2 cents, peso.
Trump's cancelation of TPP upsets Vietnam. Obama at least knows that you need to give others something to exchange what you want --- but what he gave was American lower middle class' jobs thus his plan was to rely on Republicans in Congress to pass it as Unions oppose it.
Many arrogantly believe that other nations should sacrifice their economy and future for "American value". Will you sacrifice yourself, career, children, .... for other nations' "values"?
美国在该地区的政策完全忽略了这些国家与中国的亲密关系。
Southeast Asia Isn’t Interested In Joining A New Cold War
U.S. policy in the region has completely ignored the intimate ties these
countries retain with China.
