I cut a good inch extra. After I sew, I just cut off the extra material along the sewing line. This way, it's pretty comfortable on the inside. (I don't hem the material because I don't plan for the baby to wear these for more than 1 season)
It's truly a 30-minutes project because with the placement of the cut, you don't even need to hem the legs.
The PJ's I bought are not nearly as comfortable as these old 100% cotton.
