My former boss told me I was laid off and she felt terrible for that. My position was kept until my H1 transfer was finished, which was 2 months after I was laid off. I really appreciate her help and I didn't do anything bad for my former company, because I don't hate the company. If the company needs me back and i have other opportunity, I think I still will come back because I owe a favor to my former boss, and I feel comfortable work with her.

I am not sure how is your company policy on this. It can be a big issue, or not. You can drop him a small hint and see how it goes, if you like. Otherwise, just try to help him out when he needs, like be his references, refer him to openings or friends. It is better and safer for you to remain professional. If it is going to happen very fast, a couple days won't matter too much anyway....

I didn't expect so much politics in MS. I assumed that things are much more simple and direct in a more technology/skill dependent working environment as that of MS. Maybe it's just personal style of your boss?

Rudy is sick these days too. 101F for 4 days now. We went to see the doc and was given Amoxilin. I also gave him Tynelo and Motrin alternate. The most important is drinking water, esp pedialite. You should try to give him juice (or your parents), whatever liquid he can take is good. Water is extremely important during sickness esp fever. Rudy hates medicine as well, so I let him watch TV for a while, then give him medicine, you may want to try this trick. Another trick is I gave pedialite + grape juice as soon as he wakes up, he took 8 oz these two days. Anyway, good luck to both of us.

sorry just saw it. yes yes. I think it's similar. she got high fever for one night and one day and throw up everything she ate, including medicines. We only gave her tylnol (sorry about the misspelling). At about the 4th day, she got the rashes and no fever anymore, until now. looks like she's recovered.

I am already kind of getting out of my way telling him management think the project is a mess(His boss should be telling him that). If I were him, after I hear this, I will go to the boss's office try to express my stand on the issues and let him hear my voice. But as of me in this issue, I don't want to dig too deep into the water and tell him what he should do... I don't think I should be the person saying "you are fired" ...

我和老公一致觉得公婆，父母一起住，严重影响夫妻感情。
我公婆来了一年，我和老公生份了很多。
平时也不聊天，外出活动也是一家老小一起的。
我父母再来半年，宝宝也２岁了，我们打算以后不请双方父母常住了。
老人在，我们确实少作了很多家务，但是得不偿失。
以后我打算请个钟点工干家务。
我和老公在花钱问题上还有分歧。
我觉得这几年孩子小花多点没什么，我老公管帐，跟我说攒点钱不容易。我觉得这几年不攒钱也罢，不要入不敷出就行。

As far as I know it is fire not layoff but maybe my boss just extraveggated it. Fire doesn't come with any package, the person is excorted out after notice. One of my cowoker went that way. We were all shocked.
I think the best way is to hint him(but not tell him directly) and I already thought of one hint. Just let him know I heard their team is looking for another senior dev. Plus me, he should be able to figure things out. I think it will happen very fast, as soon as his lead come back from business trip. This week or next week.
Thinking back, it seems the boss delibrately let me know about that, I really dont know why.

今天早上喝了半碗稀饭，吃药的时候不吃，怎么哄都不吃，后来外婆强行给灌了一点，她全吐了，连着早上的稀饭全给吐光了。体温还是将近39度。
现在看到药就哭，一点都不吃。稀饭也不吃，连水都不喝，她以前很爱喝水的。
刚才打电话的时候听她在电话那边哭。我心都快碎了。
是不是得送医院啊，我们家人都不愿意送宝宝去医院，怕一去就吊水，上抗生素。

我觉得能cover一年两个人都没有工作的emergency fund就够了。。多了也是贬值。。我都花了。。

Rudy is sick these days too. 101F for 4 days now. We went to see the doc and was given Amoxilin. I also gave him Tynelo and Motrin alternate. The most important is drinking water, esp pedialite. You should try to give him juice (or your parents), whatever liquid he can take is good. Water is extremely important during sickness esp fever. Rudy hates medicine as well, so I let him watch TV for a while, then give him medicine, you may want to try this trick.
Another trick is I gave pedialite + grape juice as soon as he wakes up, he took 8 oz these two days.
Anyway, good luck to both of us.

I think it shouldn't be too hard to find a job in software industry even today. Even my fired coworker found a job that pays him 20% higher. MS usually has a low-end salary.

As far as I know, my coworkers (at least 3 of them and two of them belonged to my previous group) who got fired are all not because of very serious mistakes but because of some major problem with boss. Many of them are probably too "hardcore" and may be very harding working(on their own agenda). I think MS has a 淘汰率。
My team hasn't laied off anyone (no quota for that). But with so many good candidates around, they want to let someone out so that they can get new better blood. I tend to think it would be layoff since the situation of him isn't so bad (I can feel it since he doesn't have a very bad feeling toward the boss) but the boss said "fire". Maybe he extraveggated it.

我今天上午终于整理好了我做survey的mailing list，一共1121家单位，数据库自动生成的dataset有organizational info (name, address, etc.)但是没有personal contact info (contact person's name, title, phone number, email address, etc.)。其实有一些personal contact info数据库里也有只是没有包含在自动生成的excel spreadsheet里面，我只好手动查找，copy paste copy paste, 然后还要查对organizational info，因为一开始发现好多错误的。另外也一边google着，查找各家的网站，找那些人名和email。最后一共320个email，也够我用了。下面要开始发信了，两千个信封要装啊，又是体力活，不过感觉比这个mailing list compiling要好多了，整整花了我一个月呢，累S了。

I just do not like MS..the working env..the company culture..many people ask me why I do not go for MS..to be honest..I just do not feel like it..all MS chinese people that I know of have lot of things in common..very hardworking..nice..but follow the flow..I believe as a huge company as MS is..there is not much room for each individual to grow the way they want to but they have to be shaped the way the company needs which kills the originality and creativity..if anyone does not fit pretty well..let go...from the way I see my husband work I see why MS is falling..they have lost their cool and sharpness due to complicated heirarchy..but it is evolution that every good company has gone through..getting old..it was IBM..it is now MS..it will be google.

Yes, this is very common with established (developmental stage) and gigantic (size) organizations. Recruiters usually tell ppl that "after three years in ***, you'll be dead..." In some cases (with public agencies/institutions), ppl just stay there even if there is no space to move up. Don't know about private sector.

南瓜也是增加开销的一部分， 600day care, 外加200玩具跟服装费， 800又没了。
还有水电煤气上网电话， 保险维修车加油费等等， 一个月共计支出能控制在7000下就不错了。
还有外加瓜爹学费3万一年， 这样一来， 入不敷出状态中。

这年头真是。。。我教summer session，发现不少学生都是近期被lay off，然后来念个certificate啥的。一个朋友是商学院的老师，她今年暑假也被系里找去上mba的课，因为很多美国人没工作了都来念书了。
我一个学生就是我们学校的员工，美国姑娘，说是有一个快一岁的女儿，我问她孩子谁在带呢，她说她老公最近被lay off乐，正好在家带孩子，顺便takes some online courses。。。

Different people have different approaches to business. My former boss told me I was laid off and she felt terrible for that. My position was kept until my H1 transfer was finished, which was 2 months after I was laid off. I really appreciate her help and I didn't do anything bad for my former company, because I don't hate the company. If the company needs me back and i have other opportunity, I think I still will come back because I owe a favor to my former boss, and I feel comfortable work with her.

我们现在还处于盈余状态，不过经过计算有了老二就不够上好学校的了。所以是边缘状态。我经常想，如果多挣那么几个钱就一切OK了，只要老二可以上私立就行了，其实也未必钱永远不够的。。。

Yeah, in bigger company, especially MS, replacement is easier to find. So you have to 夹紧屁股做人 until one day you become really senior and had built up your brand so well. Then you may have the freedom of working parttime or remotely. But may need 15+ years to get there...
There are many very talented young graduates to compete at entry level, so there is really no safe place for II or even senior to stay.

To me, I think it is a big hint (his team is going to hire two more people, including one at his level, with no really big new features) plus he should be getting all kinds of feedbacks daily. If he is not getting the right feedback, it means he had a very lousy boss and I should be careful in the furture. I am already kind of getting out of my way telling him management think the project is a mess(His boss should be telling him that). If I were him, after I hear this, I will go to the boss's office try to express my stand on the issues and let him hear my voice. But as of me in this issue, I don't want to dig too deep into the water and tell him what he should do... I don't think I should be the person saying "you are fired" ...
If he still cannot get it, there really is a problem of self-awareness.

Yeah, in bigger company, especially MS, replacement is easier to find. So you have to 夹紧屁股做人 until one day you become really senior and had built up your brand so well. Then you may have the freedom of working parttime or remotely. But may need 15+ years to get there...
There are many very talented young graduates to compete at entry level, so there is really no safe place for II or even senior to stay.
I do not like this feeling..I guess I prefer freedom over money..I can let the house go..but not my freedom..I work for a living not I live for work..my living standard is pretty low...working is huge part of life span..if it is really painfull better cut it off..life is too short for this..I am so laid back and do not want to compete with anybody..my current boss always thought I should have got her positon..I am like..no..it is yours..I wasn't..neither will I be interested getting it..I am pretty comfortable at where I am..a soso position..a soso pay..hehe..senior position means a lot of responsibility and pressure..I can't take that..
I always think Join makes multiple millions for concert, record and she deserves it..if I eat like she does..just 3 days..I am going nuts..so..no pain..no gain..

俺刚奔的video里的大波妹。。哈哈
不是10-15%吗？ 不过有了孩子有了房子要省钱真的不容易， 偶爹教育偶开源比节流重要， 不过偶还没找到开源的好途径。。。 原来以为租房好贵啊， 活生生一个月付快2000的房租， 现在有了房子， 单贷款就2000， 加上地税， 管理费， 保险， 修理， 3500就这么没了。 偶家还很好吃， 单超市买菜就一个月600， 外加每周至少3次外出吃饭， 时不时外面还买午餐， 一个人另加200， 1000就花吃上了 南瓜也是增加开销的一部分， 600day care, 外加200玩具跟服装费， 800又没了。 还有水电煤气上网电话， 保险维修车加油费等等， 一个月共计支出能控制在7000下就不错了。 还有外加瓜爹学费3万一年， 这样一来， 入不敷出状态中。 可是我还想着旅游。。。。。。 想要3天游北加， 2号晚上走， 5号回南加， 带南瓜的， 大家觉得咋安排好呢， 我想road trip 哈。

我们现在还处于盈余状态，不过经过计算有了老二就不够上好学校的了。所以是边缘状态。我经常想，如果多挣那么几个钱就一切OK了，只要老二可以上私立就行了，其实也未必钱永远不够的。。。
