Communication The President of the Republic received Friday, August 23 and Monday, August 26, with a view to the appointment of a Prime Minister, the leaders of the parties represented in Parliament as well as the Presidents of the two chambers. The discussions were loyal, sincere and useful. He received them in his constitutional role as arbitrator, guarantor of the institutional stability and independence of the Nation. At the end of the consultations, the President of the Republic noted that a government based solely on the programme and parties proposed by the alliance with the most deputies, the New Popular Front, would be immediately censored by all the other groups represented in the National Assembly. Such a government would therefore immediately have a majority of more than 350 deputies against it, effectively preventing it from acting. Given the views of the political leaders consulted, the institutional stability of our country therefore requires that this option not be retained. Discussions with the LIOT group and the EPR, MODEM, Horizons, Radicaux and UDI parties have outlined possible avenues for coalition and joint work between different political sensibilities. These groups have shown themselves open to supporting a government led by a personality who would not come from their ranks. The Socialist Party, the ecologists and the communists have not at this stage proposed avenues for cooperating with the other political forces. It is now up to them to do so. The Republican Right has defined its red lines, detailed its legislative pact without committing to a vote on the budget or to support or participate in the government. Starting tomorrow, Tuesday 27 August, a new round of consultations with party leaders and personalities distinguished by their experience in serving the State and the Republic will resume. In this unprecedented time in the Fifth Republic, where the expectations of French women and men are high, the Head of State calls on all political leaders to rise to the occasion by demonstrating a spirit of responsibility. The President of the Republic declared: "My responsibility is that the country is neither blocked nor weakened. The political parties of government must not forget the exceptional circumstances of the election of their deputies in the second round of the legislative elections. This vote obliges them.
