AUSTIN, Texas (AP) — A pregnant Texas woman who sought court permission for an abortion in an unprecedented challenge to one of the most restrictive bans in the U.S. has left the state to obtain the procedure, her attorneys said Monday. The announcement came as Kate Cox, 31, was awaiting a ruling from the Texas Supreme Court over whether she could legally obtain an abortion under narrow exceptions to the state’s ban. A judge gave Cox, a mother of two from the Dallas area, permission last week but that decision was put on hold by the state’s all-Republican high court. “Her health is on the line. She’s been in and out of the emergency room and she couldn’t wait any longer,” said Nancy Northup, president and CEO of the Center for Reproductive Rights, which was representing Cox.

Kate Cox, the woman who was denied an emergency abortion by the Texas Supreme Court, has been forced to flee Texas: "After a week of legal whiplash and threats of prosecution from Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton, our client Kate Cox has been forced to flee her home state of Texas to get the time-sensitive abortion care needed to protect her health and future fertility." Center for Reproductive Rights announced on Twitter. Whatever your position on abortion is, this is not acceptable.

The Texas Supreme Court on Monday overturned a lower court order allowing an abortion for a pregnant woman whose fetus was diagnosed with a fatal condition, hours after her lawyers said she had decided to leave Texas for the procedure in the face of the state’s abortion bans. The court ruled that the lower court made a mistake in ruling that the woman, Kate Cox, who is more than 20 weeks pregnant, was entitled to a medical exception. In its seven-page ruling, the Supreme Court found that Ms. Cox’s doctor, Damla Karsan, “asked a court to pre-authorize the abortion yet she could not, or at least did not, attest to the court that Ms. Cox’s condition poses the risks the exception requires.” Texas’ overlapping bans allow for abortions only when a pregnancy seriously threatens the health or life of the woman.
Lawyers for Mr. Paxton’s office argued in their appeal that Ms. Cox did not meet the criteria for a medical exception to the state’s overlapping abortion bans, which are among the strictest in the nation, and said she was seeking an “elective abortion.”

Casey DeSantis just demonstrated the “election fraud” Republicans have been looking for, by suggesting that “Moms and Grandmoms” descend on Iowa and illegally participate in the caucus.

wow Tell that to Texas who forced one of their prison guards to stay on duty even though she was in labor… the baby was stillborn as a result. Texas’s response? The “fetus” (aka 40wk baby) had no right as a person, so the parents were unable to seek pain and suffering. Spare us.

没有啊,说是is fleeing Texas after Ken Paxton sought to force her to give birth,那就跟逃难的难民一样

又一个gop包小三的,好个the party of family value

The hypocrisy is astounding
