学费是考虑吧,十个孩子的学费,都是大藤,你算过是多少钱吗?
我朋友就是homeschooling,她也上华人,目前孩子教育的那是相当牛的。
你说错了,恰恰相反,homeschooling 最大的好处是孩子们可以跟着父母全世界旅行,小孩子的阅历比一般小孩好多了。当然楼主这个10个小孩的,是另外的故事。
这两口子好像已经开培训班了,教大家怎么homeschool。
娃成功以后他们的生意也上来了。
小孩子瞎玩不等于非要全世界旅行。没玩过sandbox或没玩过泥巴的小孩,很难说拥有过正常的童年。再说,我不信homeschool的孩子比regular school的孩子在概率上旅行更多。
小孩不就是应该和小孩玩吗?要什么阅历,人世间冷暖以后有的是时间体会。

能点晚上学千万别早上,特别是男孩子。
10个兄弟姐妹还不够吗? 而且,home schooling和social 又不矛盾,人家play date 图书馆活动都会有的,否则妈妈不累死啊?
人家20岁时,已经是执照律师了。。。。。。你还要什么溢出?
说到和同龄人玩的,homeschool 的孩子们活动反而更多。我有朋友的孩子homeschool. 数学什么的都跳级,孩子们自理能力,课外活动都比普通小孩貌似厉害些。

一个家庭里思维和生活习惯都是差不多的。 没有跟不同想法不同家庭背景的人交流,会是个缺陷。

re 童年纯玩的时候多美好啊,美国这地方又不倦,大学可以随时读啊, 13岁读大学加快进度急哄哄赶着去投胎么,正常大学生谈恋爱 和同龄人hangout party全都感受不到,惨!

别说,执照律师是很牛,不过的确不是梅花羡慕的。
那个圈子考的进去也混不开。而且能挣到钱的是绝对少数。

唉,带着个minor真的很麻烦。还有成年之前就找工作,会受很多未成年人限制的。公司得当大佛一样供着,加班啥的绝对不可能,还很可能要缩短时长。

真的不用羡慕。 养到第四个基本靠哥哥姐姐带了。 你觉得为啥要homeschool呢?就是方便大的带小的。 要是大的上学去了,她三头六臂也养不了那么多。 我家以前babysitter家里11个娃排行老三,没人上学,几个大娃都是带娃好手,我娃一边爬她一边就把尿布给换好了
十个孩子真要能上藤校都会有奖学金的,根本不用自己掏钱,经济条件不是问题
Home school不需要自己教,有很好的教材和老师答疑。不需要等其他孩子,很容易培养出“天才”。
父母需要考虑的是人格培养和交际这块,要去组织活动。我亲身只见过一个例子,四个孩子的,都教的很好。其实我觉得华人父母要是一方赚钱多点的真该考虑初中以前都home school.
感觉美国的教育,如果父母有耐心在家教,会比去学校好很多。

我一个同事生了5个也都home schooled. 都长大了还不错。同事本身是caltech的牛人。
这个,10个孩子homeschooling,父母都不上班吗?家里生活靠什么?如果一个人上班供12个人,得是什么高收入工作?那所有家务和教育孩子都另一个人承担? 这些都抛开,不是每家的孩子都能配合父母的教育的。不然为什么古人要说异子而教?这家能这么做只能说明他们家孩子都很听话很自觉,接受这种方式的教育,别家不见得能复制。 最后,把中学年龄的孩子送入大学,还是普通大学,如果不是真的天才,意义何在?感觉这家孩子都不是过得正常生活。当然天才另说。

什么是乱七八糟的课程? 进入大学之后,也不是只学专业课,一般都是学很多基础课和选修课啊,估计都是你口中"乱七八糟"的课程。

反正我家是双职工,没这条件。也没想孩子过早上大学。在美国,正式工作要16岁以上。

华人家庭,基本都是半个homeschool,去学校主要是为了social罢了。。
有父母牛的。我前同事,阿富汗一代移民,自己是统计PHD,2子1女,分别是哈佛耶鲁斯坦福的本科,都是好专业,让我非常佩服。离开前单位最大的遗憾就是不能常和她聊天了。
