i have been receiving paypal payments without SSN. You need SSN only when you transfer money to your bank account. In my case all my payal money goes to my friend''''s paypal account for his medical treatment. Total so far had been around 2K. No SSN required.
not completely true. SSN is needed only when you exceed certainly amount and/or frequency or you link your bank account (thus enabling transfer money to your bank from PP) . I have no intention to give paypal my SSN so I clear my account as soon as I receive the payments (by donating it).

我上面说了最近开户的经历，注册时只需要填写地址和电话没错，但后面收钱时又会弹出提示要求输入SSN。这位层主没有用过PayPal吗？
PayPal在某些情况下的确需要你的SSN。
我不知道你具体用PayPal做什么事情，开的PayPal是哪种账号，你可以去PayPal搜索一下，为什么需要提供SSN.

PP收钱确实是ssn的，并没误导，当时我还以为是scam呢，后来google了发现是真的确实有点shock，有些担心安全性，不然就提不出钱也不能用balance，没办法只好填了

我收钱一点也不频繁，总共两三次，几百刀完全就是平凡普通得不行的时候亲朋转款
难道你去银行给SSN跟ID的时候就没有想过ID也有你的照片? SSN这个号会跟你一辈子,你都需要提供,不提供也申请不到信用卡,开不了银行户口. 难道这些信息相比wechat里面的朋友圈,照片,言论更不重要?
其实我觉得国内的wechat pay跟这边的银行信用卡是差不多意思,因为在国内wechat pay是人们出门付钱的普遍方式.美国这边还有人付现金跟刷卡.在国内,已经没几个人会带现金出门了.wechat pay就是他们在社会付钱的唯一方式.需要填写一下地址信息,收入信息,身份证明文件跟照片我觉得不过分.只是国内比较进步,一个app能又用来通信,又能用来付钱而已.如果美国whatsapp或者FB能有付费功能,我相信很多年轻人也会选择使用它们的.只是美国没有而已.
