I would guess Taiwan would have to consider one important factor - natural resources the US really wants to secure and protect strategically, that could be evaluated fairly carefully for the US in terms of involving wars, imo. That factor could be also why some countries like Germany and Japan in the past would venture starting wars with other countries like China and Australia, that perhaps due to invading for lacking and owning natural resources, possibly. Afghan does have very very important minery, probably worth to spend 20 years and a lot of money for a chance. How the US, Japan and Australia would be willing to spend so much time and money, like in Afghan, to feed so many Taiwanese people for little natural resources , when the economy of Taiwan could be destroyed due to wars involving these foreign powers one day. I am very curious.
