That's what I am.” This gives the reader an inkling to what might happen in December and builds suspense because the reader will want to know what Jonas is talking about and what will happen in December. Then we learn why Jonas is apprehensive, in chapter two, we learn that “The Ceremony of Twelve was the last of the Ceremonies” because that's when people get their “Assignments” which is similar to a job. This builds suspense because the reader wants to know what Jonas’s Assignment will be. Also, in chapter four, more suspense is built. For example, “hoping to spot Asher's bicycle parked beside one of the small factories or office buildings” and “he hoped he would find his friend there so that they could go together on the daily rounds” and “But he finally found Asher's bicycle—leaning, as usual, instead of upright in its port, as it should have been—at the House of the Old.” This shows that Jonas just wants to do community service not based on interest but just based on what his friends are doing. This also builds suspense since Jonas not having an interest increases the possibilities of Assignments Jonas may receive in the Ceremony of Twelve. Finally, in chapter seven during the Ceremony of Twelve, suspense is built. For example, “But she had skipped him. He saw the others in his group glance at him, embarrassed, and then avert their eyes quickly. He saw a worried look on the face of his group leader” and “Jonas bowed his head and searched through his mind. What had he done wrong?” This builds suspense further because ever since this point the reader has not been fed any information so the author not revealing what his Assignment is builds more suspense. Furthermore, since we only know Jonas’s pessimistic thoughts, the reader thinks that Jonas did something wrong to not be assigned a Assignment which also builds suspense. Overall, suspense is built in the first seven chapters of The Giver by Lois Lowry.

国内议论文讲究的是用排比句增加气势,用名人名言增强可信度,一股浓浓的文革遗风
对,国内议论文的逻辑不能深究的,漏洞跟筛子一样多。举的例子通常没有可比性,类比完全胡说八道,善于用比兴和排比的修辞手法。
我见过,只能说代沟太大了。他们大多使用漫画和电视剧的话,而且是我们没看过的。
比如什么德玛西亚星球纠结中的混沌死亡星射线的撕裂。大概是这样的,按我们的理解是脑残,但是如今的小孩里面比例很高,根本就不在乎我们的想法

说起国内议论文我就生气,这个是我最强项但被压抑了天赋。来到这边看了孩子学校的文学课,我觉得我的天赋真的被耽误了,议论文的前提就是限制少。
你应该写生活水平真的提高了使得我们普通人都能去ktv消费,由此感到祖国的飞速发展,吧啦吧啦,及格是妥妥的。

我反正不太适应国内的作文,是我出国理由之一lol
是的 美国的文学教育是相对严谨的,会教逻辑、结构,不是纯分析词藻。
我看华人上帖子/回复,最大的感触就是国内语文教育的逻辑缺失。比如,人身攻击不会让你的言论处于道德高地,不能树稻草人打假靶子,不要地图炮,等等。这是美国初高中反复强调的内容,要避免这些逻辑谬误。
跟GT很像诶,一上来提出论点(suspension),然后一二三四五,最后重申论点。 有个老师教过我,在最后一段可以举反例,如果没有这个,会怎么样,加强一下。 小时候被“形散神不散”带很偏,其实普通人能按结构写好就行了。
