(June 25, 2021)—On Wednesday, June 30, 2021, at 3:30 p.m. ET, Representative Jamie Raskin, Chair of the Subcommittee on Civil Rights and Civil Liberties, and Representative Judy Chu, Chair of the Congressional Asian Pacific American Caucus, will hold a roundtable entitled “Researching while Chinese American: Ethnic Profiling, Chinese American Scientists and a New American Brain Drain.” The Department of Justice (DOJ) has long targeted Chinese Americans in extensive investigations into foreign espionage, leading to multiple false arrests of innocent Chinese American scientists. These efforts ramped up in federal agencies under the Trump Administration’s China Initiative, causing numerous scientists to lose their jobs despite not unveiling chargeable criminal conduct. These cases were mostly based on unsubstantiated evidence. Just look at the composition of the U.S. team for international math competitions. Chinese Americans are a big talent pool waiting to be fully tapped for science and technology advancement. The community does not deserve this kind of systematic racism from FBI. It harms not only the minority, but also the the U.S. and particularly the U.S.''''''''s competitive advantages in innovation.
