i enrolled my dd in a public school this year and got emails saying she is eligible for weekly breakfast+lunch and dinner+snack kits. I didn't know they were encouraging families to get them. I was very curious about it, so I picked up the breakfast+lunch kit once. The kits were stored in a few large coolers and distributed by several volunteers. It was a drive-through and contactless pickup that the volunteers helped load the trunk. They would ask how many children you were getting the kits for. When i was there, not many cars dropped by, and i only saw a van before me. Breakfast, for 7 days, was a tub of vanilla yogurt and a cereal bar. Fruits were several apples and plums, plus some apple sauce. Lunch was all freezer meals, like burritos, mini burgers, hot dogs, or hot pockets. There were also 5 chocolate milk boxes and 2 boxes of plain milk. It seemed that the breakfast and lunch per day cost no more than 5 bucks for a child receiving such a kit. I was also quite curious about the dinner+snack kit, but i decided not to get it. I felt that I should not have picked up the breakfast+lunch kit, and that I should leave the dinner kit for people who need it more. I didn't know where the money for the free food was from. I thought it was our tax money. If yes, I hope there could be fresher, healthier choices for the kids. I even told my husband and dad that I thought, somehow, that giving these kinds of food to children made it a joke that America truly cares about its kids.

今年学校食堂不开门,很多工作人员没有班上,应该也是为了让工作人员不失业,但是卖又卖不出,所以政府就免费送了。
政府发的食品卷绝对是能让全家吃饱的。为什么孩子会饿肚子?
食物券每个月就一百多吧,并且美国的底层通常没有中国人的勤劳能吃苦,我知道有穷学生一个月不到一百的伙食费,还能保持营养的,他们如果能有这种精心算计的头脑和行动力还能是穷人?而且在食物银行领东西的其实往往是中下产,有工作,收入不够资格拿食物券,这种人一旦出现点紧急情况,比如车子需要修,生病,被裁,房租都可能付不出来,何况吃东西。今年疫病年,食物银行的需求狂增,排队几个小时还领不到东西吃的人可不是没有。

福利管理混乱
我也在想这个问题,中产累死累活啥都得自己干,同时又有很多人没有工作。穷人1000一月给中产打工还不如拿福利,也不能怪,$1000实在太少。如果政府能给低收入补贴福利,没有收入的人就没有福利好像也不行,万一找不到工作或者就是不想工作的人也不能完全不管吧。

和中国不一样,美国种菜养鸡的其实都是小资产阶级。。算是一种奢侈品,mass 生产的食物比自己种菜便宜多了,首先养鸡就需要专门的zone, 种菜也不是所有人都有地。其次你大概没见过真的穷人,也没去过真的贫民窟,推荐你看一本书小酒店,百年前的穷人和现在的穷人还是那些人。唯一不同的是现在有了基本福利,可以不让他们被饿死或者病死。这好了说是人道主义精神在进步,不好了说就是把我们的血抽取一些给他们,以保持他们不死不活的状态,不会起来对资本家革命造反,同时也可以让我们盯着他们嘴里的食物,满脑子想着那都是自己的血,也不会对抽血的人有任何想法🤣🤷♀️
