I got the english version of this novel from a yard sale many yrs ago. Read from the cover to cover, cried at the end when the cardinal came to the jail to talk with "gadfly" before his execution.  "Gadfly" was the cardinal's illegimate son, they both knew it. It's so moving and so Irish!

I also watched the Russian movie "Gadfly" based on this novel, well made in Russian Bolshvik artistic style. Beautiful film music composed by Dmitri Shostakovich.

 

但是为什么西方人对这本书并不感兴趣

我没看过，但是父母那辈的人都很熟悉，苏联歌苏联电影音乐，年轻时候接触的东西无论是什么政治倾向，一谈起来仍然让人热血沸腾。。。所以，从某些方面也能理解那些唱红歌的大妈们吧

两部都是我喜欢的小说，尤其是飘！

生活在故事发生的地方看这些小说，跟在中国看完全不一样的感受

呼啸山庄是最好的

十九世纪西方文学是巅峰，永远无法超越的

写得好。 傲慢与偏见讲的世情更明确清晰。如果把这些作品当爱情小说看，太委屈作者。看过飘以后，会对南北战争产生一些疑问。安从来认为

这是部女人奋斗史，甚至可以当成早期的女权著作。

茶花女也不错的

电影《蝴蝶梦》与《简爱》是否有相同之处？
